Helping Others

This is the second package that SGC is sending to China for some of the many orphans. Our donations are going here: Little China Flower (click to visit website). The first package had Infant Tylenol (generic). This package has crocheted preemie hats and triple antibiotic ointment. Thank you to all who have donated items and cash to this cause.

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. James 1:27

This is our annual hat and mitten tree-- part of the Share the Warmth campaign. We also collected gently used coats and blankets. These will be given to a local organization for distribution to those in need. Thanks again!

Ladies Wednesday Session

Our ladies ministry continues to discuss Patsy Clairmont's book, Catching Fireflies, in our Wednesday evening split sessions. (The men have their own lesson.)

Tonight's chapter focused on Laser light and its many uses. These days, laser is used for many things including surgery--cutting the body to get rid of imperfections.

We talked about how God gets deep into our heart and convicts us of our actions.
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

Tasty snacks and great dialogue.

A Lady with Honor and Love for All

There is a saint in our church whom everyone adores. Her name is Kathi. She is a wonderful woman who loves the Lord and is such an inspiration to all of us. She has gone through some physical trials in the last few years but when she shows up for church. It really encourages me. Do you know someone who is genuinely Christ to you? I bet they encourage you as much as Kathi encourages and inspires me.

We were blessed to get together this past Tuesday night at the lovely home of Andy & Chris Weisbrod. Chris was our gracious hostess this month and we all felt right at home. Her 7-layer bars were "out of this world"! Someone needs to contact Yankee Candle about marketing the aroma from those bars. It smelled like birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas all wrapped together. Thank You, Chris, for making it special!
We discussed our latest chapter (#3) in "Catching Fireflies" by Patsy Clairmont. One of the questions was, "When was the last time your morning went askew"? Another was "Who are the intercessors in your life"? We had a wonderful time of sharing over this chapter. We also read Philippians 4 and were yet again amazed by Paul and his determination to perservere in praise through adversity.
The Lord really impressed me, during the days leading up to our time together, that we need to begin praying specifically for our needs and the needs of others. We shared needs both for ourselves and others and then began to pray. There is something very powerful about being open and honest with one another about our needs and then taking that openess to the throne of God. We are so blessed to know that we can come boldy before His throne for He is waiting and willing to touch our lives in a miraculous way.
God is doing some amazing things in the lives of the precious ladies of Spirit of Grace. Let's keep listening closely to His voice and follow His light so that our light can burn even brighter than before.

Tarryn Comments on Women of Faith

This past weekend several of the ladies from Spirit of Grace, along with many from Spirit of Life, had the opportunity to attend the Women of Faith conference at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. From the opening praise and worship to the final amen we were blessed beyond measure.
Patsy Clairmont and Anita Renfroe made us laugh - hysterically - and made us cry. Lisa Harper made us realize that "flu" pants should never be worn out of doors but God always does meet us right where we are . . . ask someone who was there . . . sorry guys, no men allowed! Marilyn Meberg taught us "What To Do When The Roof Caves In" with practical lessons from her new book about what to do and say in difficult situations in our own lives and those of others. Steve Arterburn, founder of both Women of Faith and Real Family Life and award-winning author of books like "Healing Is A Choice", shared the pain of growing up invisible and let us all know that God sees us - again, right where we are.
We heard from Rich Stearns, president of World Vision Inc., how God called him from his cushy job as CEO of Lennox Collections to obey - whatever the cost - wherever it might lead. His new book, "The Hole in Our Gospel" is a compelling message about changing our world by actively living out our faith. Former 'Facts of Life' actress, Lisa Welchel, talked about becoming real - about peeling away those protective layers we build up that hinder our personal relationships.
Grammy nominated, Scottish accented Sheila Walsh shared the pain of financial betrayal and near ruin by her husband of 13 years and the struggle to forgive and move past the pain it brought about in her marriage. She told us how God miraculously rolled away the weight of unforgiveness, brought healing and gave her and her husband freedom to live and love again.
As if all that weren't enough, there really are no words to tell how wonderful listening to Sandy Patty, Nicole C. Mullen and, yes, Steven Curtis Chapman, minister in song. If you have never been to a Women of Faith conference, I would strongly encourage you to consider attending next year's conference.
Along with many of the regulars, Steven Curtis Chapman will be joined by his wife, Mary Beth, to talk about how God has carried them through the loss of their precious adopted daughter, Maria.
The conference will be October 23-24 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Women of Faith Conference

WOW! What an incredible time we had together this past weekend. Several of us were able to attend the Women of Faith Conference in St. Paul. A full day on Friday with awesome women of God ministering from their heart, experience, pain and victory. Women like, Patsy Clairmont had us laughing so hard we could barely breath. We were captivated by Marilyn Meberg and her wisdom and wit. Nicole C. Mullen rocked the house with her backup group (all kids from her outreach to youth & teens). Steven Curtis Chapman ministered so beautifully through song and testimony about how God had renewed his faith even through excruciating circumstances. It was such a blessing to see his two sons ministering along side him in the band.
Saturday held more blessing with testimonies from Lisa Welchel (Facts of Life star) and Sheila Walsh. Lisa shared about growing up on her own (on tv) and how God helped her to "feel" again and let her know it was okay to come out from behind the walls she had built up over her childhood. Sheila Walsh shared from her heart about a very fresh trial that she and her family had gone through in the last 2 years. So very open and willing to be vulnerable so that her testimony could help other women to "Just Let It Go". A testimony about true forgiveness.
I think the message that was constantly given through each song and testimony was that we are not perfect, we don't have to be perfect, because God wants to use us right where we are. Each one of us has something to give, a testimony to share so that others can be encouraged to have "A Brand New Day".
Women of Faith was such a blessing to me. I hope all of us can attend next year. It was a wonderful time of sharing and relaxing together in the presence of the Lord. Next year's WOF Conference is October 22nd and 23rd. Reserve space in your calendar ladies. Make this a priority for your soul to be fed and replenished. You won't want to miss it!
